West Railway Ltd and its owners are committed to pursue responsible activities that are in line with the objectives of sustainable development. We also expect a similar commitment from our partners and subcontractors.
In addition to the legislation that guides the operation of the company, we are also committed to compliance with the Finnish Government Resolution on State Ownership Policy. Within our activities, we respect the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Global Compact principles, and the standards of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the GRI standards for sustainability reporting.
Our operations are guided by the corporate responsibility policy approved by the company’s Board of Directors. We have set responsibility targets and indicators for our operations, covering environmental, social and financial responsibility.
Towards more sustainable railway planning with new solutions
We have boldly made use of new ideas in our planning. As part of the planning process, we have assessed new kinds of solutions for reducing traffic noise, mitigating emissions during the construction process, as well as opportunities for utilizing geothermal energy, soil and rock materials in the project area.
We have organized a shared responsibility forum for the planners, consultants and researchers working on the project to discuss the themes, current status and development of the project’s responsibility. Our goal has been to identify good new practice that can also be utilized in other infrastructure projects.
Corporate responsibility reports
In 2022, we extended our corporate responsibility work to cover our entire implementation organization.
