The West Railway is a partly double-track rail link between Helsinki and Turku, which is currently in the planning stage. The connection will significantly reduce the travel time between the cities and provide new opportunities for mobility, growth and development.
The new rail line will consist of four parts: the Espoo regional railway line, the Espoo–Salo direct railway line running from Espoo to Salo via Lohja, the Salo–Turku double track-railway line and the Turku rail yard area from the Kupittaa railway station to the Turku Central Station.
The more direct lines in the areas of the Espoo–Salo direct railway line and the Salo–Turku railway line will significantly reduce the total distance of the Helsinki–Turku railway line, and the double railway lines will make traffic smoother. The railway line will also bring opportunities for commuter traffic to entirely new localities.
The purpose of West Railway Ltd is to draw up the plans for the Espoo–Salo direct railway line and Salo–Turku double-track railway line, finance the two projects and build the new railway link. The Espoo regional railway line and the Turku train yard area are not included in the company’s duties.
