Turku One Hour Train Ltd and Welado Oy begin cooperation on the planning of the One-hour Turku Rail Link

Turku One Hour Train Ltd and Welado Oy have entered into a design management contract for the new rail link between Helsinki and Turku. The contract comprises expert services and technical design support for the project. The approximate value of the design management contract half a million euros.

The One-hour Turku Rail Link is one of the most substantial infrastructure projects in Finland at the moment. Five railway plans will be produced during the planning stage that is currently underway, which will then be developed further toward the construction stage as individual entities. The project comprises two plans for a railway line between Espoo and Salo and three plans for a railway line between Salo and Turku. 

– Already during the planning stage, the project will employ hundreds of experts, designers, contractors, and other operators from different sectors. We are delighted to have Welado’s expertise included in the project as well, says Annika Salokangas, Project Director of Turku One Hour Train Ltd.

– The design management consultant works with the client in inviting tenders for assignments and represents the client’s interests as the design process continues. Design supervision and coordination of different technological fields are also essential elements of the work, says Project Manager Tommi Latva from Welado Oy.

The expert services provided by Welado Oy for the project comprise, among other things, track technology, working stage planning, bridge technology, tunnel and rock structure technology, electrified railway and high-intensity current technology, and cost accounting.

The planning stage of the One-hour Turku Rail Link is estimated to continue until the end of 2023. Due to its importance, the planning stage of the project has been granted EU’s CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) funding amounting to a total of 50 percent of project costs, up to a maximum of 37.5 million euros.
